A Stylish Wedding Photo Shoot in Saskatoon

From the moment I laid my eyes on the beautiful images of Kelly and Danielle’s wedding, I fell in love with Danielle’s stunning couture wedding dress by Enzoani (not forgetting Kelly’s stylish black and white combo too!) What could be better than looking so stunning on your wedding day, and having the beautiful day documented with a wedding day photo shoot by your extremely talented brother in law, Brett Harkness from Brett Harkness photography?

Their wedding is packed full of personal touches, with no compromise on style.  Can’t find exactly what you are looking for?  No problem, be inspired by this wonderfully creative and stylish couple and make your own! They used a contemporary colour palette of aubergine, green and ivory - a perfect choice whatever the season.

It all began when the love of my life proposed to me one fall afternoon down by the Saskatchewan River.  Kelly and I were engaged a year and a half before our wedding date, giving us lots of time to plan our traditional romantic wedding.  We knew we would have the best of the best shooting our wedding. Brett Harkness from Brett Harkness Photography was my soon to be Brother-in-law.   We knew that Kristie and Brett would capture our wedding day just perfectly. We would not have wanted anybody else to do it for us and we thank them very much for all their hard work.

Our inspiration for our special day started when booking our venue at the “Castle on the River” in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  The venue was PERFECT, the excitement started to build and the planning commenced.  Soon after, we booked a live band, musicians for the church, linens, and a florist. It was now time to find the perfect dress.  After trying on a few, I soon found the one.  The dress was a couture gown named “Diana” by Enzoani.  Now I was getting even more excited for the big day!

The day was fast approaching and all the major aspects were in place and now it was on to all the little details. It was important to us to be able to personalize our wedding where we could so we decided to use our talents and the talents of our families. We decided to make our wedding favors.  One being handmade wooden bottle openers, branded with our names and wedding date.  And the other being, chocolate pretzels.  We had a great time making them for all our guests, which tasted delicious and were a big hit.

We decided on our colors: aubergine, ivory, and green.  It ended up being difficult finding the aubergine we wanted as nobody had the right shade. We were stuck and did not know what to do, so my parents took on the task to make the napkins, sashes for the chair covers and the pew-bows themselves.  Countless hours of cutting, surging and hunting down of the right color thread had taken place and the final outcome was amazing.  They turned out better than we expected and added another perfect touch to our wedding.

We made sure every detail was addressed.  Many hours were spent planning seating charts, making menus, table numbers, a wishing tree, selecting the cake and tasting the meal.  It was a lot of work but we wanted to plan the wedding together.

July 24, 2010 was finally here and we could not have asked for better weather.  The skies were blue and the sun shining.  Walking down the aisle with both my parents was very special to me, and then seeing Kelly at the end of the isle was my most memorable and special moment of the day!  After our ceremony at St. Paul’s Lutheran church we were off to our wedding shoot, which consisted of a bunch of different locations around the beautiful city of Saskatoon.  We visited everything from par cades to back allies with comic book characters to beautiful churches.

When guests arrived at the venue for cocktail hour where they were greeted with the sweet sound of the piano and delicious appetizers which were served butler style.  We mingled with our guests while indulging in a few drinks before the reception began.  The beautiful, heartfelt speeches were intermingled with the different courses of the meal.  After the meal and speeches it was our time to shine on the dance floor.  We put a lot of time and effort into our first dance, “You are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne.  We took private dance lessons to help make our dance even more unforgettable  The celebration continued when our live band, Long Shot, took the stage to kick off the night. They rocked the house and everyone danced the night away.

We thoroughly enjoyed all the events leading up to the day and most of all the wedding day itself!  It was everything we ever imagined it to be and more!!! Our love for each other is deepened by the friends and family around us.  Thanks to everyone who helped out and spent our special day with us.
