Country Cottage Romantic Chic by The Bridal Photographer

We love weddings with a difference and the location for Nicola and Rhys’ big day was certainly that, as they wed in a civil ceremony at quirky venue ‘The Crazy Bear’ in Stadhampton, Oxfordshire. Here, top photographer David Bostock - The Bridal Photographer - shares with us the fantastic images he captured of the day.

The tale of a stalled proposal…

Having been together for 6 years, Nicola and Rhys took a month long trip to Australia and New Zealand, where to start with things didn’t quite go according to plan. Bride Nicola told us… “Before the trip I wondered if he would propose. On a trip to Joseph Glacier on the South Island, I was sure he would, but as the previous group stepped out of the helicopter a lady was shouting “he proposed”. Rhys had been planning the same, but after that he felt he couldn’t after all.

Led to an even more romantic proposal!

All was not lost as Rhys found his courage again a few days later and picked a moment that could not have been more perfect. Nicola said, “We went funyaking in Queenstown. Despite my fears it was an amazing day filled with beautiful scenery.  Driving home in our 4 X 4, the sun was starting to set and it was by far the most stunning we had seen. We found a lovely spot and got out of the car to watch the sun set over the huge lake.  We left our jeep to take in the perfect vision of the sun set over the huge lake.  As the sun slipped behind the horizon Rhys took my hand and asked me to marry him, as he gently placed the most incredible ring on my finger.  Just the two of us, in the middle of nowhere. It couldn’t have been more perfect!”

The wedding Gown and accessories

My gown was an ivory vintage lace Vera Wang ball gown, my shoes were gold Miu Miu sandals and my earrings were gold and moonstone drop earrings by Monica Vinader at Net-a-porter.

Nicola used her own creativity to lovingly plan every detail

“I did the styling myself. My florist was always on hand to help with ideas and offer his help and opinions”

Romantic touches from the groom to be

"As I was putting my dress on, Rhys arranged for a musician to bring me a rose and card, and play a song on his guitar, which evokes sentimental memories for us. I was so touched. I also remember the look on my Dad’s face as he walked in the room and saw me for the first time in my dress, ready for him to give me away."

Nicola's personal tips - How to have fun come rain or shine

A friend’s sister told me to make the most of the weather, whatever it may be. Her advice was to use the weather as a photo prop. I had pretty parasols for rain or sun, and gold metallic wellies for splashing in puddles! I would say the same to anyone who is getting married. Before this advice I was so worried about the weather. After I had chosen these accessories, I was just excited to use them.

The best advice

"Another friend told Rhys and I to make sure we stole a few quiet moments throughout the day just to look at each other and say “hi”. These are all romantic moments I have etched in my mind and I will never forget Rhys’ face on our wedding day."
