Easter Woodland Wedding - Victoria and Mark Strefford

From the very start, Mark and I shared a united vision of our wedding day. We knew that we wanted an intimate wedding, in a beautiful Zen like space that reflected our personalities, our love of the outdoors and our appreciation of the finer things in life. We found our Shangri-La in Whitewell, deep in the heart of The Forest of Bowland and married at Easter, overlooking the tranquil waters of the River Hodder, surrounded by our family and dearest friends.

It was important that our wedding ceremony should be very meaningful and intimate .The beauty of a civil wedding is the flexibility that you have to personalize your ceremony with special vows, readings, music and unique touches. The highlight of our ceremony was when our daughter Sophie read a beautiful poem from Winnie The Pooh and joined us in lighting a unity candle, the three wicks signifying the union of not just two, but three. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

Whilst tucking into champagne and canapés on the terrace by the river, our guests were entertained by our fantastic jazz band who had learned our favourite tunes especially for us. After collecting their escort cards, they wandered through to dinner to find that Easter Bunny had left them a little gift in the form of a Lindt gold bunny. Sophie decorated the children’s table with brightly coloured Easter Bunnies and selected a special children’s menu of fish and chips, lemonade and chocolate sundaes

Our Wedding cake was served as a cheese course! In a break from tradition we had stacked cheeses, including Snowdonia Black Bomber (to represent Mark’s homeland of Wales) and locally produced farmhouse Lancashire and stilton.

Following on from some hilarious and emotional speeches, our guests signed a commemorative photo mount and we took to the floor for our first dance, ‘My Angel Gabriel’ by Lamb. We love dance music and we had a hip DJ spin dance tunes, which had the dance floor packed all night until the party concluded with Candi Stanton’s ‘You’ve got the love’. The celebrations didn’t end there and the after party convened in the chill out lounge, filled with dozens of white roses and candles where we giggled until dawn.
