Soft Vintage Styling at Thornton Manor

With soft, vintage styling in the elegant surroundings of Thornton Manor, Samantha and Greg chose Premier photographer Ian MacMichael to capture their special day.

We asked bride Samantha to tell us all about her wedding starting with Greg's proposal:

"Greg works away and after two months at sea it's always amazing to have him back home. It was Christmas 2010 and he had just returned from Florida. We always plan lots of fun adventures and this was no different. Weekends in the lakes, concerts, trips to London to see friends. On each adventure Greg, unbeknown to me, had carried the engagement ring with him, only when waiting for the moment of perfection, something always got in the way. So, as it happened we were enjoying our last meal together in the comfort of our own home - something we always do the night before Greg returns to work. We retired to the bedroom... (I'll keep it clean don't worry!) and whilst I lay in his arms he asked me to marry him. He then got out of our bed and got down on one knee and asked me again. So simple yet so perfect!

I bought my wedding dress from The Wedding Shop in Alderley Edge. It was a fantastic shop and I would highly recommend a visit - the ladies are superb! My wedding gown was by Enzoani and was called Fifi. My jewellery was hand made by a fabulous young lady called Anna who runs a company called Sweetheart Vintage.

We held the wedding at Thornton Manor on the Wirral. Philip and Diane looked after us and could not have done a better job. Our wedding day was the perfect day for us. Relaxed and lots of fun. Diane was always on hand offering words of support in the early morning and I can honestly say the day went seamlessly. My only complaint is that it went far too quickly!

The ceremony was filled with all the people we love. Both Greg and I love of music so that was always going to play an important part of it. Greg organised an acoustic guitar player to attend and asked him to sing 'Lucky Man' by the Verve as we left the room which was a lovely surprise to me. Our ceremony was not religious but we wanted it to involve our guests and include some singing so we also surprised our guests by asking them to sing 'A Day Like This' by Elbow. That was great fun and is the one thing our guests always comment on!

I had a good idea of the style I wanted which was quite vintage and understated. I couldn't have achieved this without the help of my amazing florist. Fletcher & Foley Floral Design. Joanne totally understood what I wanted and patiently answered all my questions and worked with me to achieve the look I was dreaming of.

Our caterers, Barratts, were fantastic. they took care of everything and not just the fabulous food. Michelle was master of Ceremonies and did an amazing job of looking after us on the day, even down to giving us our 10 mins of 'us' time before going through to the wedding breakfast (recommended).

There are too many highlights to list but I will try...  Seeing my mum so excited with the girls in the morning getting ready and seeing her giggling walking round the room with my veil on! Being fastened in my dress for the first time and trying not to cry looking at how beautiful my mum and bridesmaids looked. Walking down the aisle with my Dad, shaking, seeing everyone we love, then seeing Greg, holding his hand, him kissing me and knowing that nothing in this world could ever come close to the way I felt at that moment. Seeing everyone singing and enjoying themselves in the ceremony. The speeches, seeing dad overcome his fear and the best man humiliate me and Greg!

Another great moment was when Ian, our photographer took a group shot from inside the house and Greg's uncle shouted that was the first time he'd seen a scouser hanging out of a window as oppose to trying to get in one! Ian & Hazel Macmichael were the most incredible fun and relaxed photographers we could have ever wished for. Again, they understood from day one the look and feel we wanted and still managed to totally surpass our expectations!

My words of wisdom... don't sweat the small stuff! If you are both relaxed and enjoying your day then so will everyone else. They won't notice that your favours are the wrong colour or that your table number is in a particular font! Everyone is there to have fun and share your special day so try to hold on to that. Also make sure you and your husband get 10 minutes together after the ceremony and drinks reception whilst your guests are being seated for breakfast. It's a perfect time to reflect and have a kiss & a cuddle before going through to enjoy the next part of your day."
