With more than a decade in the industry, the great British designer of exquisite Bridal couture has won the Best British Bridal Designer of the Year Award not once but an astonishing 5 times and was furthered honoured with a prestigious award for his ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Industry!

Collection after collection, his couture designs are striking and never fail to impress; rich and diverse they can be described using a whole variety of words: style, sophistication, elegance, chic, glamour, drama and fantasy. Ian spoke to TheWeddingVine.com just as he had returned from collecting his award for Best British Bridal Designer 2010 in Harrogate.

Did you always have a passion for design and how did you break into the world of Wedding fashion?...

Since I  was a child, I have always interested in clothes, costumes theatre . Wedding fashion is similar to theatrical costumes, so it was a natural progression.

Tell us about how you relax, how would you spend your ideal night in and what would be your favourite night out? …..

I love to socialize with friends, go for dinner, go to the theatre, but my favorite night out would be a night in watching Coronation Street!

Do you have a signature style?...

Yes, I think it is quite quirky and theatrical.

What inspires the design of your beautiful gowns?...

Lots of things, mainly music, theatrical costume history, travel, life in general!

What’s hot at the moment?...

We are seeing that a lot of brides are having 2 dresses for the wedding, a formal gown for the day and a mini dress for the night time party.

Do you think there are changes on the horizon and if so what do you see these moving towards?...

I think brides are having more ‘themed’ weddings and choosing a particular period in time to set the mood for the wedding…I think this will become more popular for 2010

What are you favourite gown(s) in your current collection?...

My favourite gown in the current collection is called Muse. It is a draped Fishtail gown in Silk Taffeta, with a marshmallow bolero jacket.

If you could style a bride in your favourite gown, what would you accessorise this with and what flowers would you complement this with?  Where would be the ideal backdrop for this beautiful day?...

I would style the dress with  big chandelier diamond earrings and chunky diamond bracelet. Sun glasses, a small white poodle instead of flowers and the wedding would be in Monaco.

What advice would you give to brides when choosing their wedding gown?...

Don’t take too many people with you to bridal stores. Too many opinions will confuse your train of thought. Try to match the type of dress shape to the type of venue, for example, if your reception is in a big country house, then a mini dress will not suit. On the other hand, if you are marrying in a town hall, the dress should be more informal.

"Winning the 2010 Best Bridal Designer award was really a shock and very unexpected. I am honored and proud to receive this award. To be singled out from so many designers is very special and It makes me feel that I am doing something right!"

What beautiful designs, I can envisage vintage or modern letterpress stationery complementing the whole affair.
