Ellie Sanderson Tells Us What's Hot In Wedding Fashion For 2013!

If you are searching for your perfect wedding dress it can be a little daunting knowing where to start. It's therefore really important to find a good boutique, with expert staff who can walk you through a range of shapes and styles. Here, top bridal retailer Ellie Sanderson walks us through her tips for what's hot in bridal fashion for 2013...

"As a new season begins there are some incredible new trends hitting the aisle and the boutiques are buzzing watching our brides discover them.

Personally I am beyond thrilled to see the strapless bridal gown take a back seat and see straps, sleeves and jackets step forward.

It’s great to see necklines get higher and as they do the backs are getting daringly low.

Hot on the catwalk as well is tattoo lace, also known as illusion lace - wonderful little tops giving the illusion of cover in very delicate tulle. In fact one of my most favourite designers has done this so well; Sassi Holford has the most exquisite Illusion lace top that can be worn under dresses for the day and taken off in the evening.

My other favourite designer Suzanne Neville has a number of elegant gowns with long sleeves in the sheerest lace ever seen; I guess we have Kate Middleton to thank for some of these trends. You just can’t beat long sheer and elegant lace sleeves with lots of little buttons on the wrist – so very Downtown Abbey.

It’s also great to see soft splashes of colour come through from many of our designers, Oyster coloured lace or under lay, soft antique rose sashes and gorgeous pale peachy tones all make for a fabulous and totally flattering alternative to ivory or cream.

Finally, what are the shapes for the year ahead?

Well, we are still in love with ball gowns. Ball gowns with lots of organza layers, simply striking and totally dramatic. Some girls are daring to wear them at a very trendy 50s ankle length. We still love the Peplum skirt in soft fabrics adding a nod to a key fashion look. The final key shapes for this year is fit and flare skirts with lots of layering, lace and tulle – lots of it but all very delicate to avoid adding bulk whilst adding lots of texture and movement – simply gorgeous!

So it’s quite a year, lots of trend changes, glamour and sophistication is back and I am thrilled!"
