Sassi Holford, the renowned designer of classic English wedding gowns, shares her predictions for 2010.

Vintage glamour is undoubtedly a key trend that is here to stay. Sassi Holford, the renowned designer of classic English wedding gowns, shares her predictions with us, on how the current vogue for vintage glamour will be translated on the catwalk in 2010.

“Bridal trends for 2010 will be dominated by a huge dose of romance: sweatheart necklines showing off beautiful bust shaping with sexy fitted bodices. The predominant skirt styles will be decadent fishtail and dramatic ballgown. Delicate lace straps and jackets will continue to be popular with a key trend of ‘red carpet’ one shoulder styling for those chic brides. Fabrics also must ooze romance, so look out for slipper satin, vintage lace and silk georgette giving that luxurious 1940s feel. Designers will be using feature detailing such as bows and tails enhanced by diamanté appliqué and brooches to give their clients the perfect finishing statement.”

Sassi's clientele is definitely more society than celebrity, and in 2008 Sassi Holford was commissioned by Canadian Autumn Kelly to design the wedding gown for her marriage to Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips. The wedding took place at Windsor Castle, and Peter was the first of the Queen’s grandchildren to tie the knot.

Although she is constantly designing for her London boutique and for her catwalk shows, Sassi still takes most of her inspiration from her clients, “I love enhancing the female shape. Brides want to walk up the aisle feeling their most beautiful, and the right wedding dress can achieve that. It has to have a little bit of theatre!”

The Sassi Holford label is carried by leading wedding retailers in the UK, Europe and America. She has a beautiful boutique in her hometown of Taunton and her flagship showroom in Chelsea, where brides enjoy a full couture service with her exclusive bespoke gowns costing from £4000.
