Designer Dresses in the Spotlight: Alan Hannah

There were some dazzling dresses on the bridal catwalks last month in London and none more so than the beautiful new collection from Alan Hannah.

With a distinct retro feel and clear fifties and sixties influences, the collection showcased sleek, long lines, reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn as well as fuller, more structured styles echoing the swagger and sway of Grace Kelly. Ornate lace, sinuous satin bows and carefully considered crystal beading provided subtle and carefully considered detailing.

Designer Marguerite Hannah told us: "I think everybody’s loved the new collection! We’ve moved it on in the sense that we’ve moved away from the traditional bodice and skirt and we’ve made it a little bit cleaner. We’ve used a lot of encrusted pearl detail and also some freshwater pearls which has given a simple dress a very glamorous feel. The whole collection is very simple with touches of lace, beading, beautiful fabrics and really sleek cuts – nothing too fussy really, just very demure and classically beautiful - timeless!

Then I’ve also brought in that retro, short, fun element to the collection, which a lot of girls are going for now. It’s something that we haven’t really done before and they have been received really well."

Describing the catwalk show, Marguerite said: "You’re thinking about the collection for 9 months and then finally when you see it all done and it’s all worked out, that’s the highlight really, although it's always daunting - it never gets easier!"

There really is something very special about the new 2013 collection from Alan Hannah. In all honesty, I had lots of favourites, but if i had to choose one, it would be 'Lois', an ice white strapless column of embellished flowers finished with swathes of organza tulle - just gorgeous!
