A Graceful Wedding by Ian MacMichael Photography

One of the best parts of our job here at The Wedding Vine is seeing the wonderful images captured by our Premier Portfolio photographers. We see so many beautiful weddings and it is a real privilege to be able to share them with our readers to help inspire other couples planning their own special day.

Some weddings really stand out and Helen and Alex’s celebration, expertly captured by top photographers Ian & Hazel MacMichael, is definitely one of them. Helen and Alex were delighted with their photographs and we can see why, as they perfectly encapsulate the elegance and beauty of their lovely wedding.

Photographer Ian said "We had a truly memorable day with Helen and Alex. Ever since we first met up, we have got on really well, it actually felt like photographing a friends wedding! Thier whole day was at the stunning Thornton Manor on the Wirral. We are delighted with the images from the day which we feel really reflect the whole atmosphere of a truly happy day."

Bride Helen told us…

Alex proposed on his birthday, in the same spot where we picnicked on our very first date.  It was very surprising and really romantic, although we had been out for his birthday the night before and we were both rather hung-over, which was not ideal (if you want to remember this moment, I don’t recommend this – the memory is fading fast!). Alex says he was still a little drunk, so it gave him a little extra courage, which he found helpful!

I had no idea what type of dress I wanted, until I visited Jenny Packham and tried on THE ONE! It is absolutely true, when you find it, you know! My shoes were Aruna Seth. They were amazing - so beautiful and comfortable. My friend made my hair accessory, after I sent her a picture of my dress - it went perfectly!

The ceremony was beautiful! I was so happy my younger sister agreed to do a reading at the beginning - it really made the ceremony very personal to Alex and I. Walking down the aisle hand in hand with my father, towards my future husband was such a wonderfully emotional moment; I hope never to forget that feeling!

We got married at Thornton Manor in Cheshire. When Alex and I visited Thornton Manor we knew it was the perfect venue for the relaxed wedding we had imagined. Dianne, Philip and the team were so helpful throughout the whole day; they felt like part of the family. They truly made sure everything went to plan, so Alex and I could just enjoy the day. As we had exclusive use of the house and all the rooms, it meant the Manor felt like our home for the day. Alex and I were only having a relatively small wedding with 60 perfect guests and although the venue could accommodate so many more, it did not in anyway feel like we had too few guests.

The day went without hitch. The venue has a list of preferred suppliers and we chose Barrett’s as our caterer. Their service and attention to detail was amazing and the food was delicious; even the most discerning foodies at the wedding said the food was fantastic! They ensured each step of the day went to plan, and all the guests were in the correct place at the right time. Our wonderful wedding day ended in the sitting room, bunched up on the sofas, eating wedding cake, drinking cups of tea and beer until 4am, laughing, singing and talking. It was a perfect end to a perfect day.

Our venue was absolutely beautiful, so it did not need much styling, but I still wanted to do something a little different with the flowers. Laura, from Green Earth Flowers did such a wonderful job. She knew exactly what I wanted; it was such a pleasure working with her and her team.

After months of preparation our wedding day came and went so quickly, so my advice to other couples is be sure to enjoy every minute. We are so thankful we have such beautiful photographs, which capture each moment to ensure we never forget how wonderful the day was. Our photographs are really the only thing we have to remember the day. We would definitely say this is area where you should spend a little extra if you can. We are so pleased we chose Ian & Hazel MacMichael to document our wedding day; we are absolutely delighted with all of our photographs.
