the wedding vine - wedding directory and online shop
Gavin Dickson is a former award winning photojournalist, having worked for fifteen years photographing some of the most talked about news stories covering assignments across the UK, USA, East Africa, Middle East and Europe.
In 2011 Gavin's work lead him to cover his most high profile wedding to date, when he was selected to be one of the fifteen accredited photographers positioned outside the doors of Westminster Abbey for the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton!
Gavin has a truly impressive portfolio, having photographed many members of the Royal family, three prime ministers and stars of stage, screen and the sporting arena.
In 2012 Gavin was runner up in Photographer of the Year category at the 2012 Midland Media Awards.
Gavin says, "I've always told stories through photographs and the wedding day story lends itself to true storytelling. From bridal preps, the ceremony, the reception, speeches, first dance and everything in between. There is no better story to tell.
I work discreetly photographing the wedding day as the emotion unfolds in front of me, capturing the spontaneous moments that occur naturally and only happen once. My style is documentary story telling.
I work predominantly in black & white but some things need to be seen in colour - a red double decker bus needs to be red!
My influences are Martin Parr, Elliott Erwitt, Bruce Davidson and Joel Meyerowitz. I admire the ability to make extraordinary photographs of ordinary everyday life, spotting the moments that nobody else sees.
I have had two solo photographic exhibitions and I am currently working on a long term project documenting daily life in the Black Country (West Midlands)."
